Iraq\u2019s federal government has blocked the messaging
\nplatform Telegram as part of measures aimed at curbing armed group activity and
\nstrengthening security, a government source told Shafaq News on Monday.<\/p>\n

The decision followed coordination with security and
\nintelligence agencies, with authorities pointing to the platform\u2019s use by some
\narmed factions and seeking to disrupt their communications as part of broader
\nefforts to contain the situation and reduce drone-related incidents.<\/p>\n

Despite the restriction, the source noted, channels
\nlinked to these groups remain accessible through virtual private networks
\n(VPNs), allowing users to bypass the block.<\/p>\n

The digital rights group Tech 4 Peace reported<\/a> on Friday
\nthat Telegram had been restricted in Iraq while remaining accessible in Iraqi
\nKurdistan, with no immediate official explanation at the time. Users in Baghdad
\nand several provinces, including Basra, Najaf, Saladin, Kirkuk, and Diyala,
\nexperienced the disruption simultaneously, with the cause initially unclear
