PHOENIX (AZFamily) \u2014 President Donald Trump threatened Iran with \u201chell\u201d in a social media post on Easter Sunday if the country did not reopen the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n
The post drew sharp reaction from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, including Rep. Yassamin Ansari, the only Iranian-American currently serving in Congress. The Democratic lawmaker called the president a threat to national security and appeared to call for his removal.<\/p>\n
Trump threatened Iran\u2019s civilian power plants and bridges if they did not open the Strait of Hormuz, where roughly a fifth of the global oil and natural gas passes through. The president used profanity in the post on his Truth Social account<\/a>.<\/p>\n Ansari invokes 25th Amendment<\/p>\n Ansari responded on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying, \u201cThe 25th Amendment exists for a reason. The president of the United States is a lunatic and a national security threat to our country and the rest of the world.\u201d The 25th Amendment allows for the president to be removed from office.<\/p>\n Arizona Rep. Greg Stanton, also a Democrat, agreed with Ansari and called the president\u2019s words \u201cpathetic\u201d but doubted the president would be removed.<\/p>\n \u201cThat would obviously take an action by the cabinet of the president as a practical matter that\u2019s not going to happen,\u201d Stanton said. \u201cThe president is losing it and it\u2019s a very dangerous situation for America and the world.\u201d<\/p>\n During a press conference, the president doubled down on his threats to Iran\u2019s public infrastructure but gave little indication of what the next steps are. <\/p>\n Republican members of Arizona\u2019s congressional delegation did not respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n See a spelling or grammatical error in our story?
