French authorities had repeatedly expressed concern for Kohler and Paris since the United States and Israel began launching strikes against Iran in February. The rush to secure their release took on added urgency as Trump scaled up his threats against Iran. <\/p>\n

Trump on Tuesday warned that should Iran fail to cut a deal, \u201ca whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want that \u200cto \u2060happen, but it probably will,\u201d he wrote in a Truth Social post on Tuesday. <\/p>\n

The U.S. president has threatened to attack Iranian power plants and bridges<\/a> if Tehran doesn\u2019t open the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday morning, French Foreign Minister Jean-No\u00ebl Barrot said France \u201copposed all strikes against civilian infrastructure<\/a>\u201d in Iran because they would represent a violation of international law and could escalate the conflict in the Middle East.<\/p>\n

France has been trying to keep out of the conflict.
