Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system have been discovered in\u00a0Syria, potentially offering specialists a\u00a0rare opportunity to\u00a0examine the system\u2019s\u00a0real-world capabilities. Russian experts have described the find as\u00a0highly significant.<\/p>\n<p>Particular interest has been drawn to\u00a0released footage showing an\u00a0almost intact nose section of\u00a0the interceptor, including its infrared homing seeker.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0the assessment cited in\u00a0the report, the recovered components could prove especially valuable for Russia, Iran, and China, as\u00a0they may allow for a\u00a0deeper analysis of\u00a0the U.S. missile defense system and help develop countermeasures for their own ballistic missiles.<\/p>\n<p>The THAAD system is\u00a0designed to\u00a0intercept medium-range ballistic missiles and other aerial targets at\u00a0high altitudes.
