(WCAX) &#8211; Lebanon firefighters have moved their operations into a new fire station.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The new $24 million station is about 9,000 square feet bigger than the old building on the same site. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">In addition to a larger apparatus room for trucks, the station includes a dedicated decontamination area where crews can wash their gear and shower after returning from a call.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThis was a huge investment by our community. It doesn\u2019t go unrecognized. But to know that our personnel have a safe work environment helps with our recruitment and retention. We continue to hire strong employees that come to work here. And I know that their long-term health is being taken care of and much better monitored now in this new building than it was in the old facility,\u201d said Lebanon Chief Jim Wheatley.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The department is fully staffed with 35 employees, though the chief said several retirements are expected.
