It began with President Donald Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/116363336033995961\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">warning that<\/a>, should Iran not reopen the Strait of Hormuz, \u201ca whole civilization will die tonight.\u201d It ended with Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/116365796713313030\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">proclaiming a<\/a> two-week ceasefire and opening negotiations with Iran based on Tehran\u2019s \u201c10 point proposal.\u201d There is rampant confusion about what those 10 points are, but the version released by Tehran <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/iraninmalaysia\/status\/2041707730017439786?s=61\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">calls for<\/a>, among other things, Iranian control of the Strait of Hormuz, U.S. military withdrawal from the region and acceptance of Iran\u2019s right to pursue nuclear enrichment \u2014 all conditions that should be utterly unacceptable to any U.S. administration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Tuesday was one of the more bizarre days in U.S. diplomatic history.
