The speaker of Iran\u2019s Parliament Mohammad Ghalibaf described Israel\u2019s attack on Lebanon as a violation of the ceasefire deal it agreed to with the U.S. and warned it would trigger \u201cstrong responses,\u201d hours after President Donald said that the U.S. forces would remain near Iran until it complied with what he deemed as the \u201creal\u201d ceasefire agreement.<\/p>\n

Ghalibaf, who is considered one of the most powerful remaining leaders in the Iranian regime, posted a statement on X<\/a> citing \u201cPoint 1\u201d of Tehran\u2019s 10-point peace proposal.<\/p>\n Ghalibaf said Lebanon and Iran\u2019s proxies, which he dubbed as the \u201cResistance Axis,\u201d formed an \u201cinseparable part of the ceasefire\u201d and cited Pakistan Prime Minister\u2019s ceasefire announcement<\/a> that mentions Lebanon.<\/p>\n The Iranian Speaker said there is \u201cno room for denial and backtracking\u201d now and any ceasefire violations will \u201ccarry explicit costs and STRONG responses.\u201d<\/p>\n In a post on Truth Social<\/a> earlier, Trump said all U.S. ships, aircraft and troops will \u201cremain in place in, and around, Iran,\u201d until the \u201cREAL AGREEMENT reached is fully complied with.\u201d<\/p>\n Trump said if Iran doesn\u2019t comply with his peace deal, then the \u201cShootin\u2019 Starts,\u201d and warned that attacks will be \u201cbigger, and better, and stronger.\u201d<\/p>\n The president dismissed Tehran\u2019s public statements as \u201cfake rhetoric\u201d and said that \u201cNO NUCLEAR WEAPONS\u201d and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz were essential components of his agreement.<\/p>\n Trump added that the U.S. military was now resting up and \u201clooking forward\u201d to its \u201cnext Conquest.\u201d<\/p>\n What Have Iranian Officials Said About The Ceasefire?<\/p>\n Iran\u2019s deputy foreign minister Saeed Khatibzadeh was interviewed by the BBC<\/a> on Thursday, where he said his country would allow ships to safely pass through the Strait of Hormuz in compliance with \u201cinternational norms and international law\u201d once the U.S. withdraws its \u201caggression\u201d and Israel stops striking Lebanon. He described Israel\u2019s strikes on Lebanon, which Lebanese officials say have killed 182 people<\/a> on Wednesday, as a \u201cgrave violation\u201d of the ceasefire. The minister said Iran has asked \u201ceverybody in the Middle East\u201d to abide by the ceasefire agreement, and he expects \u201cthe Americans to do the same with its allies.\u201d<\/p>\n What About Passage Of Ships Through Hormuz?<\/p>\n The maritime tracking firm Lloyd\u2019s List Intelligence reported<\/a> that only three ships passed through the Strait of Hormuz on the first day of the ceasefire. Citing data from intelligence firm Kpler, the New York Times reported that only five ships transited through the strait on Wednesday, the lowest since the end of March. Khatibzadeh told BBC Iran will \u201cdefinitely\u2026provide security for safe passage,\u201d but argued the critical shipping lane was not \u201cinternational waters.\u201d The Iranian official claimed safe passage through the strait depends on \u201cthe goodwill of Iran and Oman.\u201d Iran also published a map<\/a> of the strait highlighting a danger zone, noting<\/a> that it to ensure safety and protect ships from \u201cpossible collisions with sea mines.\u201d This danger area sits at the center of the standard shipping lane through the strait, and the map urges ships to take an alternative route, which is closer to Iran\u2019s coastline. This new route will presumably allow Iran to exert more direct control on shipping traffic through the strait through which 20% of the world\u2019s oil passes.<\/p>\n What To Watch For<\/p>\n Pakistan is set to host peace talks between key U.S. and Iranian leaders on Saturday. The U.S. contingent is expected to be led by Vice President JD Vance and include the president\u2019s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and his son-in-law Jared Kushner. Iran\u2019s ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam wrote on X that the Iranian delegation would arrive on Thursday night, but he later deleted the post<\/a>. Pakistan has heightened security<\/a> in and around its capital ahead of the scheduled talks, including shutting schools and government offices for two days.<\/p>\n
