UNITED States-Israeli strikes have \u201ccompletely destroyed\u201d a synagogue in Tehran after it was hit during attacks on an adjacent building.<\/p>\n

Iranian media reported on Tuesday, April 7 that the Rafi-Nia Synagogue was completely destroyed in strikes.<\/p>\n

According to the Iranian Mehr news agency, the synagogue was destroyed when an adjacent residential building in central Tehran was attacked.<\/p>\n

The report said that due to the narrowness of the streets surrounding the building attacked, the exterior and interior of the nearby buildings were also \u201cseverely damaged\u201d.<\/p>\n

There were no casualties.<\/p>\n

The Rafi’-Nia synagogue is considered one of the main gathering places for Jews from Iran’s northeastern Khorasan region.<\/p>\n

In a video published on Telegram by Iran\u2019s official News outlet, a Jewish representative in the country\u2019s assembly, said :\u201cthe Zionist regime showed no mercy to this community during the Jewish holidays and targeted one of our ancient and holy synagogues.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately, during this attack, the synagogue building was completely destroyed and our Torah scrolls were left under the rubble.\u201d<\/p>\n

The strikes were among a series of US-Israeli attacks overnight from April 6 to April 7, in which local media reported at least 15 people were killed across Iran.<\/p>\n

Local officials said nine people were killed in an Israeli air attack on a residential neighbourhood in the city of Shahriar in the west of Tehran province.<\/p>\n

Following the strikes, Iran\u2019s Jewish community condemned the destruction of the synagogue and declared its support for the Iranian state and denouncing attacks on both its religious sites and the country.<\/p>\n

In a statement\u00a0 the community said it condemned the targeting of the Rafi’-Nia synagogue in central Tehran, which it said had been destroyed, as well as wider US-Israeli attacks.<\/p>\n

The statement said: “We, the Jews of Iran, condemn the brutal attacks carried out by the American-Zionist enemy against our dear homeland and the Rafi’-Nia synagogue.”<\/p>\n
