The Kabul Tribune (KT) \u2014 Iran\u2019s parliament speaker said
\nTehran entered recent negotiations with the United States in Pakistan with
\ngoodwill but remained deeply distrustful of Washington, citing past conflicts
\nand failed diplomacy.<\/p>\n
Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf said ahead of the talks that Iran
\nhad the \u201cnecessary goodwill and determination,\u201d but added that previous wars
\nhad eroded trust in the United States.<\/p>\n
In a statement following the discussions, he said the
\nIranian delegation had presented constructive proposals, but the U.S. side
\nultimately failed to win Tehran\u2019s confidence during the latest round of
\nnegotiations.<\/p>\n
Ghalibaf said Washington appeared to understand Iran\u2019s
\nposition and principles, but now faced a decision on whether it could build
\ntrust with Tehran.<\/p>\n
The speaker emphasized that Iran views diplomacy conducted
\nfrom a position of strength as complementary to military efforts, and said the
\ncountry would continue pursuing what he described as gains achieved during
\nweeks of national defense.<\/p>\n
He also thanked Pakistan for facilitating the talks, which
\nwere held in Islamabad as part of efforts to ease regional tensions.<\/p>\n
The remarks come after Reuters reported that the United
\nStates and Iran failed to reach an agreement to end their war following
\nmarathon negotiations that concluded Sunday in Islamabad, raising concerns over
\na fragile ceasefire.<\/p>\n
According to the report, both sides blamed each other for
\nthe collapse of the 21-hour talks aimed at ending more than six weeks of fighting
\nthat has killed thousands and driven global oil prices higher.<\/p>\n
Ghalibaf also expressed appreciation for public support
\ninside Iran and praised members of his delegation for their efforts during what
