{"id":63853,"date":"2026-04-12T15:29:17","date_gmt":"2026-04-12T15:29:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/63853\/"},"modified":"2026-04-12T15:29:17","modified_gmt":"2026-04-12T15:29:17","slug":"us-iran-peace-talks-end-without-deal-as-delegations-leave-pakistan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/63853\/","title":{"rendered":"US-Iran peace talks end without deal as delegations leave Pakistan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/pentagon-congress\/2026\/04\/11\/us-military-begins-clearing-strait-of-hormuz-trump-says\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/pentagon-congress\/2026\/04\/11\/us-military-begins-clearing-strait-of-hormuz-trump-says\/\">U.S. and Iran<\/a> failed to reach an agreement to end their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/pentagon-congress\/2026\/04\/09\/trump-again-chides-nato-for-failing-to-back-us-operations-in-iran\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/pentagon-congress\/2026\/04\/09\/trump-again-chides-nato-for-failing-to-back-us-operations-in-iran\/\">war<\/a> despite marathon talks that concluded on Sunday in the Pakistani capital Islamabad, jeopardizing a fragile <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/your-military\/2026\/04\/07\/trump-says-he-has-agreed-to-two-week-ceasefire-with-iran\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/your-military\/2026\/04\/07\/trump-says-he-has-agreed-to-two-week-ceasefire-with-iran\/\">ceasefire<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Each side blamed the other for the failure of the 21-hour negotiations to end <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/your-military\/2026\/04\/08\/pentagon-data-13-us-troops-killed-346-wounded-in-operation-epic-fury\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/your-military\/2026\/04\/08\/pentagon-data-13-us-troops-killed-346-wounded-in-operation-epic-fury\/\">fighting that has killed thousands<\/a>, roiled the global economy and sent oil prices soaring since it began more than six weeks ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cThe bad news is that we have not reached an agreement, and I think that\u2019s bad news for Iran much more than it\u2019s bad news for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/pentagon-congress\/2026\/04\/10\/the-president-who-threatened-to-end-a-civilization-is-supposed-to-guarantee-ukraines-survival\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/pentagon-congress\/2026\/04\/10\/the-president-who-threatened-to-end-a-civilization-is-supposed-to-guarantee-ukraines-survival\/\">United States of America<\/a>,\u201d said Vice President JD Vance, the head of the U.S. delegation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cSo we go back to the United States having not come to an agreement. We\u2019ve made very clear what our red lines are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>IRAN CITES LACK OF TRUST IN THE TALKS<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Iran\u2019s Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad \u200bBaqer Qalibaf, who led his country\u2019s delegation along with Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, blamed the U.S. for not winning Iran\u2019s trust despite his team offering \u201cforward-looking initiatives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cThe U.S. has understood Iran\u2019s logic and principles and it\u2019s time for them to decide whether they can earn our trust or not,\u201d Qalibaf said on X.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Both the U.S. and Iranian delegations have now left Islamabad to return home, Pakistani sources told Reuters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The talks, after a ceasefire earlier in the week, were the first direct U.S.-Iranian meeting in more than a decade and the highest-level discussions since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. <\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Vance said Iran had chosen not to accept American terms, including not to build nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cWe need to see an affirmative commitment that they will not seek a nuclear weapon and they will not seek the tools that would enable them to quickly achieve a nuclear weapon,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cThat is the core goal of the president of the United States, and that\u2019s what we\u2019ve tried to achieve through these negotiations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Iran\u2019s semi-official Tasnim news agency said \u201cexcessive\u201d U.S. demands had hindered reaching an agreement. (Reuters)<br \/>\n\u2018IMPERATIVE\u2019 TO MAINTAIN CEASEFIRE<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Pakistan\u2019s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said it was \u201cimperative\u201d to preserve the two-week ceasefire that was agreed last Tuesday as the sides attempt to wind down a war that began on February 28 with air strikes by the U.S. and Israel on Iran.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Israeli security cabinet minister Zeev Elkin told Army Radio that more talks were still an option, but added: \u201cThe Iranians are playing with fire.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">In his brief press conference, Vance did not mention reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a choke point for about 20% of global energy supplies that Iran has blocked since the war began.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Vance said he had spoken with President Donald Trump as many as a dozen times during the talks. But even as the negotiations continued, Trump said on Saturday that a deal was not entirely necessary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re negotiating. Whether we make a deal or not makes no difference to me, because we\u2019ve won,\u201d he told reporters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Even as the talks were taking place, U.S. ally Israel continued bombing Tehran-backed Hezbollah militants in Lebanon, insisting that that conflict was not part of the Iran-U.S. ceasefire.
