The Resolution Foundation think tank estimates the conflict could <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aol.co.uk\/news\/uk-could-align-eu-single-065907181.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:leave the average UK household \u00a3480;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">leave the average UK household \u00a3480 <\/a>worse off over the current financial year.<\/p>\n<p>The IMF is poised to release its world economic outlook later today, providing updated global growth and inflation forecasts. This comes as Donald Trump\u2019s blockade of Iranian ports took effect, with the US president threatening to &#8220;eliminate&#8221; Tehran\u2019s fast attack vessels if they approach American warships.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves is expected to advocate for global action to mitigate the economic impact of Trump\u2019s war (PA Wire)\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"standard-img w-full w-full h-auto\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/f2c8296236281de62acfe99f38b75017.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves is expected to advocate for global action to mitigate the economic impact of Trump\u2019s war (PA Wire)<\/p>\n<p>Sir Keir Starmer will chair Cabinet on Tuesday morning, where the conflict and its fallout are likely to feature high on the agenda.<\/p>\n<p>He has refused to back the operation and was instead working with French President Emmanuel Macron to bring together an international coalition aimed at securing future freedom of navigation in the strait, a vital route for global oil and gas supplies from the Gulf.<\/p>\n<p>The Prime Minister told MPs the summit of world leaders later this week would focus on diplomatic efforts to reach a \u201cnegotiated end to the conflict\u201d and the reopening of the critical waterway, which had become a \u201crunning sore\u201d to the world.<\/p>\n<p>Military planning would also be undertaken \u201cto provide assurance to shipping as soon as a stable environment can be established\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Sir Keir said: \u201cI\u2019m very concerned about the impact that this war is having on people back in the United Kingdom who\u2019ve obviously played no part in the war, but I don\u2019t want them paying the price.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo that\u2019s my primary focus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His comments were echoed by the Chancellor, who said: \u201cFamilies and businesses across Britain are bearing the cost of instability they did not cause.
