Oil prices jumped back above $100 a barrel before <a data-testid=\"Link\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/us-crude-futures-fall-over-1-traders-weigh-supply-risks-2026-04-13\/\" class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__inherit-color__PhuPF text-module__inherit-font__1P1hv text-module__inherit-size__EyiQW link-module__link__INqxZ link-module__underline_default__-okuC\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">easing on Tuesday<\/a> on hopes of further talks.<\/p>\n<p>Experts have told Reuters the blockade is a major, open-ended military endeavour that could trigger fresh retaliation from Tehran and put tremendous strain on an already fragile ceasefire.<\/p>\n<p>The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency said on Monday it had been informed of maritime restrictions, but was told that &#8220;neutral \u200bvessels&#8221; currently within Iranian ports \u200bhad been granted a grace \u2060period to leave.<\/p>\n<p>The blockade adds to uncertainty around how ships will transit the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial waterway used to move one-fifth of the world&#8217;s oil and gas supplies.<\/p>\n<p>Iran&#8217;s threats to shipping \u200bhave caused global oil prices to skyrocket about 50% since the U.S. and Israel launched \u200bthe war on \u2060February 28.<\/p>\n<p>The blockade efforts in the Strait of Hormuz will not fall on the U.S. Coast Guard, at least for now, a U.S. official told Reuters.
