Juliet, TN to start by June"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MT. JULIET, Tenn. (WKRN) \u2014\u00a0A road project that has been long overdue in Mt. Juliet is finally moving forward after years of discussion.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>City commissioners selected a contractor to begin the widening of Old Lebanon Dirt Road this week. One commissioner told News 2 this road is narrow, dangerous, and prone to crashes.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the biggest issues here in the city is roads, so here we are,\u201d\u00a0District 4 Commissioner Jennifer Milele\u00a0said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to Milele, traffic is often the number one complaint, but on Old Lebanon Dirt Road, the concern centers around safety.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt just twists and turns, and it\u2019s just narrow altogether and lack of shoulders \u2014 it\u2019s\u00a0just a very dangerous road,\u201d Milele described.<\/p>\n<p>\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wkrn.com\/news\/local-news\/mt-juliet-motorcycle-crash-nonaville-road\/?ipid=promo-link-block1\" class=\"promo-link__link\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><br \/>\n\t\tMt. Juliet officials talked about widening the road.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDecades, literally\u2026 This is just a perfect example of these city capital road widening projects of how long they take,\u201d Milele said.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, city commissioners approved a contractor to begin the construction phase. The project will widen two miles of Old Lebanon Dirt Road from\u00a0Moreland\u00a0Drive to Chandler Road, in addition to installing a\u00a010-foot\u00a0trail or multi-use path on the south side of the road.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis\u00a0has been\u00a0a long\u00a0time in the making, and this is the first of many steps in finally getting the orange cones out on the streets,\u201d District 3 Commissioner\u00a0Scott Hefner explained at a Mt. Juliet Board of Commissioners meeting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:24px\">\u23e9\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wkrn.com\/?ipid=newsbreak-lower-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Read today\u2019s top stories on wkrn.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>While it took years to get to this point, Milele said there has been a lot of planning\u00a0going\u00a0behind the scenes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u00a0are\u00a0so many phases. There\u2019s planning, there\u2019s design, there\u2019s engineering, there\u2019s environmental,\u201d Milele said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Besides improving safety,\u00a0the project will also address poor drainage and flooding issues along the road.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson\u00a0for the city of\u00a0Mt.\u00a0Juliet\u00a0said\u00a0construction on the project is expected to begin by\u00a0June.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"MT.
