{"id":70788,"date":"2026-04-17T20:52:11","date_gmt":"2026-04-17T20:52:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/70788\/"},"modified":"2026-04-17T20:52:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T20:52:11","slug":"negotiate-to-free-iranians-effective-leadership-equals-safer-streets-and-other-commentary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/70788\/","title":{"rendered":"Negotiate to free Iranians, \u2018effective leadership\u2019 equals safer streets and other commentary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Peace patrol: Negotiate To Free Iranians<\/p>\n<p>New US-Iran talks will \u201cfocus on Iran\u2019s nuclear ambitions,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefp.com\/p\/trump-should-negotiate-for-iranian\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">admits The Free Press\u2019 Eli Lake<\/a>, but \u201cPresident Donald Trump should aim higher than just another nuclear deal that eventually expires\u201d: He has a chance \u201cto make good on his initial pledge\u201d to aid the people he \u201cpromised to liberate.\u201d He has the leverage to ensure that ordinary Iranians \u201cget something out of a deal.\u201d Trump can choose to extract \u201cpromises from a near-bankrupt regime not to rebuild a nuclear program,\u201d but he can also \u201cpressure the mullahs to restore the internet, end the executions,\u201d and free imprisoned Iranians.<\/p>\n<p>Urban beat: \u2018Effective Leadership\u2019 = Safer Streets<\/p>\n<p>Washington, DC, these last five years has \u201cwitnessed a stunning shift in carjacking offenses, exposing the consequences of political leadership,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2026\/apr\/15\/dc-carjacking-crisis-tale-two-administrations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">reports Charles Stimson at The Washington Times<\/a>. During President Joe Biden\u2019s time in office, carjackings soared, averaging 586 a year. \u201cAn alarming 74%\u201d involved firearms, and juveniles made up 64% of arrests. The arrest-to-offense rate \u201chovered at a meager 25%.\u201d Yet in President Trump\u2019s first year, \u201ccarjackings plunged to 232,\u201d less than half the Biden rate. The arrest-to-offense rose to 58%, which \u201cspeaks volumes,\u201d and juvenile arrests fell to 51%. \u201cThese are not coincidences\u201d: \u201cEffective leadership and a willingness to enforce the law translate into safer streets.\u201d Now it\u2019s time to close \u201cloopholes, empower law enforcement, and protect our city.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From the left: Stonings Aren\u2019t \u2018Accountability\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Vile as Eric Swalwell is, \u201cwhat\u2019s happening with him is insanity, not progress,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.racket.news\/p\/public-stonings-are-not-accountability\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">argues Racket News\u2019 Matt Taibbi<\/a>.
