At a BP station in Clifton, gas prices remain close to $4.00 per gallon, with a significant amount of oil still stuck on ships that have yet to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. AAA reports that the average cost per gallon in Ohio is $3.74, while Indiana drivers are paying $3.82. Kentucky has the highest average price in the region at $3.94 per gallon. Blake Jones, a fourth-year University of Cincinnati student from Cincinnati, shared his experience with rising gas costs. “I have a fuel-efficient car, but I still felt it at the pump. I’d say on average I probably fill up once a week and it’s cost me about $10 to $15 extra just to fill up,” Jones said. Art Hogan, chief market strategist at B. Riley Wealth Management, explained the challenges in reducing gas prices. “Once the Strait opens up it takes time to unclog the 800 tankers that are there, get them to the places they need to be and get the refineries back open and process all that fuel,” Hogan said. Diesel prices are also a concern, with AAA reporting that the average price for a gallon of diesel in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky is above $5.30. Some shipping companies are adding fuel surcharges to the goods they transport due to high diesel costs, further impacting consumers.

      CINCINNATI —

The Strait of Hormuz has reopened to commercial vessels, but drivers in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky are still facing high gas prices, with experts saying it could take time for costs to drop.
