A further nine laden cargoes are &#8220;trapped\u201d west of the strait, he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-5-6YWMFHTPIVAW7E4YPAR6WRLNWM\">Bloomberg, meanwhile, reported on Saturday that five Indian and Greek oil tankers tried to cross the strait, but were forced to turn back and idle.<\/p>\n<p>Play<img decoding=\"async\" type=\"image\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" fetchpriority=\"auto\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/https:\/\/cdn.jwplayer.com\/v2\/media\/aLYl6PKH\/poster.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Sharjah fish market remains busy despite tensions in the strait<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-8-NSUZ2VRT5NCUDEHPOERZPHDUR4\">&#8220;There continue to be significant gaps between the US and Iranian negotiating positions, and the status of the negotiations remains unclear,\u201d analysts at the Institute for the Study of War wrote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-9-QRNV5D77KNF7RNF6NJC237AP2A\">The US and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/tags\/iran\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/tags\/iran\">Iran<\/a> announced on Friday that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/news\/europe\/2026\/04\/17\/macron-and-starmer-host-hormuz-conference-on-restoring-critical-supply-chains\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/news\/europe\/2026\/04\/17\/macron-and-starmer-host-hormuz-conference-on-restoring-critical-supply-chains\/\">Strait of Hormuz<\/a> has reopened, although Iranian state media later said that would be void if Washington continued its blockade of the waterway.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-10-HOGSSWEWOND3FOEX3HSW43SHUY\">Iranian Foreign Minister <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/news\/mena\/2026\/03\/27\/israel-strikes-two-iranian-nuclear-sites-for-first-time-in-war\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/news\/mena\/2026\/03\/27\/israel-strikes-two-iranian-nuclear-sites-for-first-time-in-war\/\">Abbas Araghchi<\/a> said earlier that \u201cin line with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/news\/2026\/04\/16\/trump-announces-10-day-lebanon-ceasefire-to-begin-at-midnight\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/news\/2026\/04\/16\/trump-announces-10-day-lebanon-ceasefire-to-begin-at-midnight\/\">ceasefire in Lebanon<\/a>\u201d, the strait was now \u201ccompletely open\u201d for the remaining period of the truce. He added that passage for ships would follow the co-ordinated route \u201cannounced by the Ports and Maritime Organisation of Iran\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-11-4O3CIG6EIFH27PO4OILSUSMY5E\">But an Iranian source, quoted by Tasnim news agency, said transit through the strait would be considered &#8220;void\u201d if the US naval blockade continued. The source laid out three conditions for vessels seeking to pass \u2013 ships must be strictly commercial, military transit remains prohibited and neither the vessel nor its cargo can be linked to countries deemed as hostile to Iran.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-12-IZQZ7WJEIVFQRJLUYSEI7QRFS4\">Those conditions also exposed internal friction over how the policy is being communicated.
