Iraq\u2019s Foreign Ministry on Sunday rejected Israel\u2019s appointment of a diplomatic representative to Somaliland as a violation of Somalia\u2019s sovereignty and international law.<\/p>\n
The ministry said the step reflects \u201cintentions to encourage conflicts and disputes within states\u201d and constitutes a \u201crejected precedent\u201d that undermines the principles of territorial integrity.<\/p>\n
Iraq remains \u201cfirm\u201d in support of Somalia\u2019s unity and sovereignty, it added, rejecting any unilateral measures affecting its territorial integrity.<\/p>\n
Israel\u2019s move follows its December 2025 recognition of Somaliland as an independent state, making it the first UN member to formally recognize the breakaway region and moving toward full diplomatic relations.
