Nasdaq futures gained 0.4%. <\/p>\n<p>U.S. benchmark crude slipped 14 cents to $87.28 per barrel, while the price for a barrel of Brent crude, the international standard, is off 47 cents to $95.01.<\/p>\n<p>The Iran war has <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/us-iran-war-israel-hormuz-20-april-2026-a3ddc59230ae7de719a9ff9e7595e375\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">disrupted oil shipments<\/a> through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway through which about a fifth of the global oil supply passes on a typical day, pushing energy sharply higher. <\/p>\n<p>U.S. President Donald Trump has demanded that Tehran allow traffic to pass through the strait, which is on its southern border, and has <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/iran-war-strait-of-hormuz-blockade-trump-bf6a057faebfc11eb0c76510a4fc20b1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">imposed a blockade<\/a> on Iranian ports. <\/p>\n<p>Mohammed Bagher Qalibaf, Iran\u2019s chief negotiator said his nation wouldn\u2019t negotiate in the face of threats while U.S. President Donald Trump offered mixed messages about the path ahead for the <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/iran\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Iran war<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Qalibaf, who is also Iran\u2019s parliamentary speaker, wrote in a post on X early Tuesday that \u201cWe do not accept negotiations under the shadow of threats.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump indicated that he still expects to dispatch his negotiating team, led by U.S. Vice President JD Vance, to Pakistan\u2019s capital of Islamabad for talks, even as Iran insisted it would not take part until the U.S. leader dialed back his demands. Trump said he\u2019s \u201chighly unlikely\u201d to renew <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/iran-us-israel-trump-lebanon-april-7-2026-421ee64fdc9a5c26460df8119c7d1b3f\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the ceasefire<\/a> before it expires Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe current dynamic is one of a precarious balance of truce,\u201d Mizuho Bank said in a commentary, so \u201cas the ceasefire draws to its 2-week deadline, the all-consuming question is whether both sides can seize on the talks to land on a US-Iran deal that ends the war.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For now, oil prices remain well below the $119 per barrel level for Brent crude when fears were at their highest. And the S&amp;P 500 is still above where it was before the war. <\/p>\n<p>In early equities trading, shares of Apple barely moved after the iPhone maker announced Monday night that CEO <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/apple-tim-cook-ceo-chage-john-tenus-3e179f3ba156f37ebdc4da5c137a8263\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tim Cook was stepping down<\/a> from the job that he inherited from the late Steve Jobs. <\/p>\n<p>Cook, 65, will turn the CEO duties over to Apple\u2019s head of hardware engineering, John Ternus, on Sept. 1, ending a 15-year reign that saw the company\u2019s market value soar by more than $3.6 trillion during an iPhone-fueled <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/apple-50-years-anniversary-computer-iphone-b462b82f1e202f28a75ab1a8070c00b7\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">era of prosperity<\/a>. Democrats on the committee have already signaled they will press him about what they argue is a lack of transparency regarding some of his vast financial holdings. It\u2019s not clear when the committee may even be able to vote on his nomination.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, in Europe at midday, Germany\u2019s DAX rose 0.6% and the CAC 40 in Paris ticked up 0.2%. Britain\u2019s FTSE 100 was flat.<\/p>\n<p>In Asian trading, Tokyo\u2019s Nikkei 225 climbed 0.9% to 59,349.17 on strong gains for tech-related companies like Tokyo Electron, which rose 3.5%.
