{"id":77281,"date":"2026-04-22T01:05:17","date_gmt":"2026-04-22T01:05:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/77281\/"},"modified":"2026-04-22T01:05:17","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T01:05:17","slug":"asia-pacific-markets-today-nikkei-225-kospi-hang-seng-index-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/77281\/","title":{"rendered":"Asia-Pacific markets today: Nikkei 225, Kospi, Hang Seng Index"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A pedestrian looks at an electronic quotation board showing numbers of the Nikkei 225 index in Tokyo on September 11, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Kazuhiro Nogi | AFP | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Asia-Pacific markets opened broadly lower Wednesday as concerns grew that the Middle East conflict could drag on, after President Donald Trump\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/04\/21\/trump-iran-war-ceasefire.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">extended a U.S. ceasefire in Iran<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Based on the fact that the Government of Iran is seriously fractured, not unexpectedly so and, upon the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, of Pakistan, we have been asked to hold our Attack on the Country of Iran until such time as their leaders and representatives can come up with a unified proposal,&#8221; Trump said in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/116444507618729432\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Truth Social post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the ceasefire would be extended until Tehran submitted a proposal or discussions were concluded, and that the U.S. military would continue its blockade of Iranian ports.<\/p>\n<p>However, the timeline remains uncertain. Negotiators from Tehran said they wouldn&#8217;t attend the talks with the U.S., calling them a &#8220;waste of time,&#8221;  Iranian state media reported on Wednesday. <\/p>\n<p>The uncertainty also delayed Vice President\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/jd-vance-us-vice-president\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">JD Vance<\/a>&#8216;s trip to join peace talks, according to reports from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2026\/04\/21\/iran-us-war-peace-talks-vance-pakistan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Axios<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2026\/04\/21\/world\/iran-us-war-trump-news\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The New York Times<\/a>, citing U.S. officials with knowledge of the situation. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@CL.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">West Texas Intermediate<\/a> futures were 0.80% higher at $90.39 per barrel as of 8:01 p.m. ET. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@LCO.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brent crude<\/a>\u00a0gained 0.77% to $99.24 per barrel. <\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.N225\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nikkei 225<\/a>\u00a0was down 0.41%, while the Topix lost 0.67%. Japan&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/04\/22\/japans-exports-expand-11point7percent-in-march-on-brisk-demand-higher-prices.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">exports rose<\/a> for a seventh straight month, posting a trade surplus of 667 billion yen ($4.18 billion) in March, compared with a surplus of 1.1 trillion yen forecast, data from Reuters showed. The focus will also be on the Bank of Japan&#8217;s policy meeting next week. <\/p>\n<p>South Korea&#8217;s Kospi inched 0.16% higher after reaching a record high on Tuesday, while the small-cap Kosdaq slipped 0.42%.
