\n\tThe head of IMO has warned that the situation in the Persian Gulf remains \u201cextremely volatile\u201d following a series of new attacks on vessels.<\/p>\n


\n\t\u201cThe attacks on and seizures of commercial ships are unacceptable,\u201d Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary-General at IMO, said in a statement published on\u00a0Wednesday, referring to incidents in recent days.<\/p>\n


\n\tIranian forces have attacked at least three commercial vessels in recent days despite a temporary ceasefire with the US, highlighting continued instability in the region.<\/p>\n


\n\tIran has linked the incidents to the US naval blockade targeting ships that have called at Iranian ports, arguing the measures justify its actions in the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n

\n\tI cannot understand why companies would take risks<\/p>\n


\n\tOn Wednesday, Iranian forces opened fire on vessels attempting to transit the Strait<\/a>, with at least two ships coming under attack.<\/p>\n


\n\t\u201cThe situation in the region remains extremely volatile, Dominguez said.<\/p>\n


\n\t\u201cI cannot understand why companies would take risks and endanger seafarers\u2019 lives.<\/p>\n


\n\tHe recounted speaking with a stranded seafarer who described \u201cconstant stress of missiles overhead\u201d, risks from falling debris, rationing of supplies, and difficulties communicating with family.<\/p>\n


\n\tWhile that individual has since departed, Dominguez said nearly 20,000 seafarers remain stuck after more than seven weeks, uncertain when they will return home.<\/p>\n


\n\t\u201cDe-escalation, meaningful actions and restoring the freedom of navigation is the only way forward,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
