{"id":80069,"date":"2026-04-23T14:38:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-23T14:38:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/80069\/"},"modified":"2026-04-23T14:38:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T14:38:09","slug":"lebanon-urges-us-to-pressure-israel-for-full-withdrawal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/80069\/","title":{"rendered":"Lebanon urges US to pressure Israel for full withdrawal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n                            2026-04-23T14:17:42+00:00<\/p>\n<p>                                    font<\/p>\n<p>                                            Enable Reading Mode<\/p>\n<p>\n                                        A-<br \/>\n                                        A<br \/>\n                                        A+\n                                    <\/p>\n<p>Shafaq News- Beirut<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Lebanese<br \/>\nPrime Minister Nawaf Salam called on the United States to pressure Israel to<br \/>\nscale back its demands and end its military presence in southern Lebanon ahead<br \/>\nof a second round of direct talks.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with<br \/>\nthe Washington Post, Salam noted that Lebanon cannot accept any agreement that<br \/>\ndoes not include a \u201cfull withdrawal\u201d of Israeli forces, rejecting a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shafaq.com\/en\/Middle-East\/Israel-maintains-Southern-Lebanon-positions-despite-ceasefire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">buffer zone<\/a><br \/>\nin the south as it would prevent displaced residents from returning and hinder<br \/>\nreconstruction efforts in affected areas.<\/p>\n<p>Pointing to \u201cthe<br \/>\nimportance of Washington\u2019s role as a mediator,\u201d Salam said that the United<br \/>\nStates has leverage over Israel and played a \u201ckey role\u201d in securing the<br \/>\nceasefire. He added that negotiations remain at an early stage but affirmed<br \/>\nLebanon\u2019s commitment to pursuing diplomatic efforts to achieve its objectives.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/shafaq.com\/en\/Middle-East\/US-to-host-second-round-of-Lebanon-Israel-talks-on-April-23\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">second<\/a> round of<br \/>\nambassador-level talks between Lebanon and Israel is scheduled for today in the<br \/>\nUnited States. The first round took place in Washington on April 14, followed<br \/>\nthree days later by the ceasefire agreement halting military operations between<br \/>\nHezbollah and Israel.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the ceasefire,<br \/>\nwhich will expire on April 26, Lebanon\u2019s National Council for Scientific<br \/>\nResearch has recorded around 220 Israeli violations, including airspace<br \/>\nbreaches, artillery fire, airstrikes, and ground activity. Lebanese media<br \/>\nreported operations in Marjayoun and Bint Jbeil districts, including house<br \/>\nburnings and multiple explosions.<\/p>\n<p>Hezbollah said it<br \/>\nresponded to the violations by striking Israeli troop concentrations in the<br \/>\nTyre district, downing a reconnaissance drone, and launching a drone attack<br \/>\nagainst Israeli forces in Marjayoun and Bint Jbeil districts.<\/p>\n<p>From March 2 to April<br \/>\n17, Israel has killed 2,294 people and injured 7,544 others, according to<br \/>\nLebanon\u2019s Health Ministry.
