{"id":82978,"date":"2026-04-25T12:33:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-25T12:33:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/82978\/"},"modified":"2026-04-25T12:33:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-25T12:33:08","slug":"trapped-in-the-gulf-ship-crews-run-low-on-food-water-and-mental-health-reserves","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/iran\/82978\/","title":{"rendered":"Trapped in the Gulf, ship crews run low on food, water \u2013 and mental health reserves"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The United Nations\u2019 maritime agency has highlighted the plight of seafarers trapped in the Persian Gulf, saying the weeks-long <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/news\/china\/diplomacy\/article\/3351191\/us-iran-war-chokes-hormuz-can-central-asias-middle-corridor-rise-rescue?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">closure of the Strait of Hormuz<\/a> was taking a high toll on the crews.International Maritime Organisation secretary general Arsenio Dominguez said that at least 10 seafarers had been killed in 29 attacks on vessels in the Gulf and around the Strait of Hormuz since the beginning of <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/topics\/us-israel-war-iran?module=breadcrumb&amp;pgtype=article?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">the US-Israel war on Iran.<\/a><\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">In addition, several vessels had been seized and detained in the region in recent days while thousands of seafarers remained trapped in the area, Dominguez said on Friday.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cMy call is to release the seafarers because they are not at fault,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cThe situation is not improving. I reiterate: there is no safe transit anywhere in the Strait of Hormuz.\u201d<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Dominguez added: \u201cI spoke to a seafarer who had been trapped in the Persian Gulf for more than six weeks. Aside from the exhaustion and toll on mental health of the crews, they feel invisible, that they are not valued.
