Iraq\u2019s ruling Shiite bloc has
\npostponed a key meeting to decide its nominee for prime minister, with the
\nApril 26 constitutional deadline approaching.<\/p>\n
A well-informed source told Shafaq
\nNews that the Coordination Framework \u2014a coalition of predominantly Shiite
\nparties holding 162 seats in the 329-member parliament\u2014 deferred its scheduled
\nSaturday session due to persistent disagreements and the lack of a decisive
\nmechanism to select a candidate.<\/p>\n
Bilateral meetings among senior CF leaders
\nare expected later in the day.<\/p>\n
The alliance has repeatedly failed
\nto unify behind a single nominee. Under Article 76 of Iraq\u2019s constitution, the
\nbloc must submit its candidate to President Nizar Amedi, elected on April 11,
\nwithin a 15-day nomination window, after which the designated nominee would
\nhave 30 days to form a government and secure parliamentary confidence.<\/p>\n
