Leaders of the Coordination Framework (CF) held a late-night
\nmeeting at Iraq\u2019s Government Palace in Baghdad on Saturday in a renewed attempt
\nto resolve the deadlock over naming the country\u2019s next prime minister, a
\npolitical source told Shafaq News.<\/p>\n
The CF \u2014a coalition of predominantly Shiite parties holding
\n162 seats in Iraq\u2019s 329-member parliament\u2014 has repeatedly failed to agree on a
\nsingle nominee.<\/p>\n
According to the source, the talks aim to \u201cbridge
\ndifferences\u201d within the bloc and move toward a consensus formula that can
\nsecure internal approval.<\/p>\n
The dispute extends beyond candidate names to the nomination
\nmechanism itself, including whether the decision should be reached through
\npolitical consensus or a vote within the alliance, as well as guarantees over the
\ndistribution of ministerial portfolios.<\/p>\n
Under Article 76 of Iraq\u2019s constitution, the bloc must
\nsubmit its nominee to President Nizar Amedi within 15 days of his election on
\nalready held April 11, setting an April 26 deadline. The designated candidate
\nwould then have 30 days to form a government and secure parliamentary
\nconfidence.<\/p>\n
