Earlier attempts to persuade al-Maliki and current Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani to withdraw their candidacies have failed, with both figures maintaining their positions.

Under Iraq’s post-2003 power-sharing arrangement, the presidency goes to a Kurd, the premiership to a Shiite, and the speakership to a Sunni Arab. Parliament elected Nizar Amedi as president on April 11, triggering the process to select a prime minister. The Framework faces its constitutional deadline today to present a candidate, after which the nominee has 30 days to form a government and secure parliamentary confidence under Article 76 of the constitution.

Read more: Iraq’s CF weighs consensus candidate for premiership

2026-04-26T21:01:44+00:00 font Enable Reading Mode A- A A+ Shafaq News- Baghdad Former intelligence chief Hamid al-Shatri has been…

[14
152,14136,94,5165,30221,1679
0":"post-84790","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-iraq","8":"tag-breaking","9":"tag-cf","10":"tag-iraq","11":"tag-nouri-al-maliki","12":"tag-nouri-al-malikis-bloc-rejects-al-shatri-bid-as-162-seat-cf-races-pm-deadline","13":"tag-prime-minister
["GET
