Senator Aleksey Pushkov believes the situation in\u00a0the Middle East suggests that the United States is\u00a0preparing for a\u00a0new round of\u00a0war with Iran.<\/p>\n
In\u00a0his view, US\u00a0President Donald Trump wants to\u00a0increase pressure on\u00a0Tehran and force it\u00a0into submission. Pushkov also recalled that Washington had previously begun expanding its military presence in\u00a0the region.<\/p>\n
The senator said the United States appears to\u00a0be\u00a0preparing to\u00a0continue the war, even though this could bring further destruction to\u00a0energy infrastructure in\u00a0the region and keep the Strait of\u00a0Hormuz blocked, with serious consequences for the global economy.<\/p>\n
CNN earlier reported that the US\u00a0command is\u00a0developing new plans for strikes on\u00a0Iranian targets. According to\u00a0the channel\u2019s\u00a0sources, special attention is\u00a0being given to\u00a0dynamic targeting near the Strait of\u00a0Hormuz, in\u00a0the southern Persian Gulf and the Gulf of\u00a0Oman.<\/p>\n
Potential targets could include fast boats, minelayers, and other assets that Tehran may use to\u00a0block key sea routes and pressure the United States.
