Welcome to another edition of CNBC&#8217;s Daily Open.<\/p>\n<p>The attempted shooting at the White House Correspondents&#8217; Association Dinner dominated headlines over the weekend, with details continuing to trickle in.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, employment worries grow following AI-fueled job losses in Meta and Microsoft \u2014 but in a twist of irony, OpenAI is reported to be the new favorite destination of tech executives.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"headline0\"\/>What you need to know today<\/p>\n<p>The White House Correspondents Association Dinner is one of the most high-profile events for Washington reporters.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That event took a worrying turn after a man armed with multiple weapons\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/04\/26\/world-leaders-express-support-after-washington-dc-shooting.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">charged a security checkpoint\u00a0<\/a>at the dinner on Saturday stateside before being apprehended by U.S. Secret Service agents.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect in the attack was Cole Allen, 31, from Torrance, California, and according to a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/26\/us-news\/read-whcd-gunman-cole-allens-full-anti-trump-manifesto\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">New York Post report<\/a>\u00a0of Allen&#8217;s writings, U.S. administration officials were his primary targets.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>U.S. President Donald Trump\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/04\/25\/trump-gunshots-white-house-correspondents-dinner.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">said one officer was shot<\/a>, but he was &#8220;saved by the fact that he was wearing obviously a very good bulletproof vest.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Outside of the U.S., Trump has his hands full as he deals with the Iran conflict. Plans for a second round of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/04\/26\/oil-price-iran-war-strait-hormuz.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">peace talks came apart<\/a>\u00a0after the U.S. president cancelled plans to send U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Pakistan for negotiations with the Iranians \u2014 who had already expressed unwillingness to engage with the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>The development stoked energy worries, with oil prices climbing.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@LCO.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brent futures<\/a>\u00a0rose 2% to trade at $107.37 per barrel, while U.S.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@CL.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">West Texas Intermediate<\/a>\u00a0futures gained 1.86% to $96.13.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/04\/26\/stock-market-today-live-updates.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">U.S. futures<\/a>\u00a0for all three major indexes slipped.<\/p>\n<p>Asian markets, however, started the week mostly higher, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/04\/27\/asia-pacific-markets-nikkei-225-kospi-hang-seng-index.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Japanese and Korean benchmark indexes hitting record highs\u00a0<\/a>in early trade, with focus on China&#8217;s industrial profits data for the first quarter of the year due later in the day.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In tech news, AI-fueled job losses raise employment worries as Meta and Microsoft last week announced\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/04\/24\/20k-job-cuts-at-meta-microsoft-raise-concern-of-ai-labor-crisis-.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">more than 20,000 job<\/a>\u00a0cuts.<\/p>\n<p>These are the same companies that are collectively spending hundreds of billions of dollars a year to build out artificial intelligence infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Ironically, several top software executives\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/04\/25\/ai-talent-wars-enterprise-software-executives-openai.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">have been poached<\/a>\u00a0by AI giants that are hunting for talent with sales and go-to-market experience, according to sources.<\/p>\n<p>Executives from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/CRM\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Salesforce<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/SNOW\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Snowflake<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/DDOG\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Datadog<\/a>\u00a0have gone to OpenAI and Anthropic, multiple sources told CNBC.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Lim Hui Jie<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"headline1\"\/>And finally&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/04\/24\/south-korea-us-stocks-capital-gains-tax.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">South Korea&#8217;s &#8216;ant investors&#8217;
