(Reuters: Shir Torem)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The group which is considered a terrorist organisation under Australian law, opened fire on Israel in early March, days after the US and Israel began their war against the Iranian regime. Prior to this Israel had regularly fired on Hezbollah despite a 2024 ceasefire.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The Lebanese Government accused it of dragging the country into a war, solely to support its backers in Tehran.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">That was a position echoed by Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, after Mr Qassem&#8217;s remarks.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2026-04-26\/israel-strikes-villages-in-lebanon-demands-residents-to-leave\/106609282\" data-component=\"FullBleedLink\" class=\"RelatedCard_link__rsgR9 FullBleedLink_root__lTw_U interactive_focusContext__yRhc_ interactive_defaults__AKxUU FullBleedLink_showVisited__g3Xvz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Israel demands residents evacuate villages in southern Lebanon<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP RelatedCard_synopsis__cFwMW Typography_sizeMobile14__u7TGe Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Israeli forces have demanded residents in seven villages north of Lebanon&#8217;s Litani River to evacuate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Some hold us accountable for deciding to go to negotiations on the pretext of the lack of national consensus,&#8221; he posted on social media platform X.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I ask: when you went to war, did you first obtain national consensus?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Before the negotiations even began, some started directing arrows of criticism and accusations of treason, and claiming that we are going to the negotiations in surrender.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We say to these: wait for the negotiations to begin and judge the outcome.&#8221;Ceasefire in name only<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The 10-day-old ceasefire in Lebanon appeared to exist in name only, as Israel continued to hit claimed Hezbollah targets in the south of the country and the Bekaa Valley in the east, accusing Hezbollah of breaching the fragile truce.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">At least 14 people were killed in the Israeli strikes on Sunday, with more attacks on Monday.
