Wasit province in southeastern Iraq holds diverse economic
\nresources, including significant oil potential, an Iraqi lawmaker told Shafaq
\nNews on Monday, urging swift steps to establish a Wasit Oil Company to develop
\nfields and create jobs.<\/p>\n
Uday Al-Zamili pointed to recent reports highlighting
\npromising sites, including the \u201cstrategic\u201d Al-Zafariya field, which contains
\nlight crude reserves capable of producing tens of thousands of barrels per day
\nif fully developed. He said Wasit lawmakers have met across political lines and
\nagreed to unify efforts to support the province\u2019s agricultural, energy, and
\nservice sectors, adding that the next phase will involve \u201chigh-level\u201d
\nparliamentary action to advance strategic projects, alongside calls for a budget
\naligned with development needs and measures to boost investment and utilize
\nidle resources.<\/p>\n
