Iran on Wednesday rejected criticism from the Gulf Cooperation Council
\n(GCC) over the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, urging its members to rebuild
\ntrust with Tehran and pursue cooperation for the benefit of the region.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Iran\u2019s Foreign Ministry described the closure of the
\nstrategic maritime gateway as an act of self-defense, stressing that the Strait
\nremains open while noting that countries not involved in \u201cmilitary aggression
\nagainst Iran\u201d may transit after coordinating with and obtaining permission from
\nIran\u2019s armed forces.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, the GCC called<\/a> for the immediate restoration of maritime
\nsecurity and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz to conditions prior
\nto February 28, 2026. The bloc also rejected any measures that could disrupt
\nshipping traffic, including the imposition of transit fees on passing vessels.<\/p>\n

The escalation began after US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran, prompting
\nTehran to impose restrictions on US- and Israeli-linked shipping in the
\nstrategic waterway, affecting maritime traffic. Washington later introduced a
