The Birmingham Public Schools superintendent condemned the \u201cinappropriate and offensive\u201d stickers, stating that the district does \u201cnot tolerate intimidation, bullying, threats, discrimination or antisemitism in our schools.\u201d<\/p>\n
(JNS) The superintendent of Birmingham Public Schools in suburban Detroit condemned the display of antisemitic, anti-Israel stickers at an elementary school event on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The materials appeared at a table during a \u201cMulticultural Night\u201d at Beverly Elementary School in Beverly Hills, Mich., where families had gathered to celebrate diverse backgrounds. Some stickers included slogans such as \u201coccupation is not freedom\u201d and \u201cf**k Zionism, free Palestine,\u201d as well as a sticker with an image of an assault rifle, according to local reports.<\/p>\n
According to a\u00a0statement<\/a>\u00a0to families from superintendent Embekka Roberson, shared by Jewish advocacy group StopAntisemitism, school officials took immediate action to address and remove the \u201cinappropriate and offensive\u201d stickers.<\/p>\n \u201cWe do not tolerate intimidation, bullying, threats, discrimination or antisemitism in our schools,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n Roberson noted that the stickers were not on display during the principal\u2019s pre-event walkthrough, adding that school officials are reviewing \u201cprocesses and planning to strengthen safeguards for future events.\u201d<\/p>\n Leo Terrell, senior counsel at the U.S. Department of Justice, called the parents who brought the stickers to the school \u201cshameful.\u201d<\/p>\n
