Arriva con due giorni di ritardo la festa di compleanno (nato il 6 agosto) per Matthew Brennan che oggi brinda al successo nella quinta tappa del Giro di Polonia, la Katowice-Zakopane di 206 chilometri. Il britannico della Visma Lease a Bike non si lascia scappare l’occasione di battere tutti allo sprint nonostante l’ostinata resistenza di Ben Turner (Ineos Grenadiers) secondo classificato e di un brillante Andrea Bagioli (Lidl Trek) come due giorni fa terzo a Wałbrzych. Nei dieci finiscono anche Raccagni Noviero (4°), Tiberi (6°), Bettiol (8°) e Milesi (10°) Il buon Lapeira rimane in giallo davanti a Langellotti, Christen e Tiberi.
La frazione è stata animata da Plowright (Alpecin Deceuninck), Artz (intermarchè Wanty), Svrcek (Soudal Quick Step) e Gamper (Jayco AlUla) che si sono presi la libertà di rimanere al vento per parecchi chilometri. Il quartetto si è sfaldato nel finale con Plowright e Artz che hanno proseguito da soli prima del ricongiungimento con il gruppo a poco meno di dieci dalla conclusione. Le fasi salienti hanno avuto come protagonisti dapprima Jan Christen (UAE Team Emirates XRG) e subito dopo Frigo (Israel Premier Tech) riassorbiti ai – 8. La reazione da parte di Christen porta fuori dal plotone anche Bettiol e i due guadagnano una manciata di secondi che conserveranno fino allo striscione dell’ultimo chilometro.
