Lo scalatore colombiano, vincitore de <strong>Il Lombardia 2016<\/strong>, ha preso la decisione di chiudere qua la sua carriera, che lo ha visto conquistare anche cinque tappe nei Grandi Giri e salire sul podio finale sia al <strong>Giro d\u2019Italia<\/strong> che alla <strong>Vuelta a Espa\u00f1a<\/strong>, in entrambi i casi sempre nel 2016. Approdato tra i pro\u2019 nel 2011 con la Colombia es Pasi\u00f3n, il 35enne ha poi militato a lungo nella Orica GreenEDGE\/Mitchelton-Scott, squadra con la quale ha ottenuto le sue principali vittorie, prima di trascorrere le ultime quattro annate con la maglia della <strong>EF Education-EasyPost<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>\u00c8 la decisione giusta<\/strong> \u2013 le parole di Chaves \u2013 Sono molto felice. <strong>Sono molto orgoglioso della carriera sportiva che ho avuto<\/strong>. Sono molto felice di chiudere questo capitolo nel modo in cui lo stiamo chiudendo. Chi sono io senza la mia bici? Senza la bici, sono Esteban. Sono un figlio, sono un fratello, sono un marito, sono un padre. <strong>Sono un essere umano che sogna di essere un esempio<\/strong>, che sogna di essere in pace, che sogna di avere un forte contatto con la natura.
