Stellantis Japan has added a Fiat 600e electric vehicle to Kyoto’s municipal fleet. The handover ceremony took place on April 24 at the city administration building and marked two anniversaries at once: 60 years of sister-city relations between Kyoto and Florence, and 160 years of diplomatic ties between Japan and Italy.
The car is based on the Fiat 600e La Prima, a compact electric SUV equipped with a 54 kWh battery and offering a range of up to 493 km on the European WLTC cycle. The model supports both standard and fast charging, while its quiet operation and city-friendly format make it well suited to official use.
The donated vehicle carries a special “Miyako Shiraji ni Nami” design. The white bodywork represents purity and a new beginning, while the wave motif refers to Kyoto’s ability to preserve tradition while embracing change. At the rear, the car features the logo of the city’s climate initiative to achieve net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050.
For Stellantis, the project is more than a brand gesture; it forms part of its strategy to promote electric vehicles in Japan. For Kyoto, it is another public statement of the city’s environmental direction, after becoming one of the first in the country to pursue a systematic policy against climate change.
