From George Washington to Captain America, all the way to Julius Caesar and Dan August. These are just some of the 31 aliases used by a 26-year-old man reported by the Carabinieri for setting fire to several garbage bins on April 10 in Rome’s Pinciano neighborhood. The 26-year-old, of Bosnian origin and homeless in Italy, is charged with arson. The incident occurred on Via Paisiello, where a fire had been reported to several Ama garbage bins. Firefighters’ intervention put out the flames, preventing damage to people or parked vehicles. By analyzing video surveillance footage from the area and conducting a territorial patrol, officers at the Parioli station identified the man. What emerged particularly clearly during the investigations was the 26-year-old’s tendency to evade checks: the young man turned out to be a criminal with 31 aliases under his belt.
On multiple occasions, in an attempt to evade Carabinieri checks, the young man provided clearly false personal details, even using the names of famous historical figures and international icons. During the most recent investigation, he identified himself as “George Washington,” after previously using aliases such as “Julius Caesar,” “Dan August,” the protagonist of the eponymous American television series, and even “Steve Rogers,” aka “Captain America.” In light of the evidence gathered, the officers have submitted a request to the judicial authorities for the issuance of an appropriate precautionary measure against the suspect.
