Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister
Antonio Tajani said Friday that he told United States Secretary
of State Marco Rubio that Italy, Europe and the USA need each
other during their bilateral meeting in Rome.

“I’m convinced that Europe needs America, Italy needs America,
but also that the United States needs Europe and Italy,” Tajani
told reporters after what he described as a “positive” meeting.

“I reiterated the importance of Western unity and of
transatlantic relations, which are fundamental for us,” Tajani
said.

The minister added he told Rubio that Italy supports all
initiatives that can lead to a permanent ceasefire in the Middle
East and encourages “dialogue”.

He also said Italy’s was willing to use its Navy for
mine-sweeping operations in the Strait of Hormuz once a
ceasefire is agreed.

Tajani said he reiterated Italy’s “willingness to be present in
Lebanon in the future too in order to play an important role in
ensuring stability, also to strengthen the Lebanese armed and
regular forces, which we are already doing with our bilateral
mission”.
