Man Charged in Rome Murder Due Back in Court May 26

UTICA, N.Y. — Gregory Mignot Jr., charged in connection to a deadly stabbing in Rome, appeared in Oneida County Court Monday for a hearing on the People’s plea offer.

On the morning of April 1, Rome Police responded to the area between Railroad Street and the 200 block of East Dominick Street, where they found a man dead with a puncture wound to his chest.

Police identified the victim as 31-year-old Michael Brown of Rome.

Mignot Jr. is charged with murder and pleaded not guilty.

The defense said there are still pieces of discovery that are being turned over, so they requested a two-week adjournment to look at the evidence and return back to court.

Oneida County District Attorney Todd Carville said it will be enough time to turn those materials over to the defense.

They said grand jury minutes have been completed. There are also outstanding lab results that the People have not received yet.

Carville said everything else should be shared with the Defense within that time frame.

Mignot Jr. is due back in court May 26 at 9:30 a.m. in front of Judge Robert Bauer.
