The ATP Rome final is set in 2016 with the top seed and world #1 Jannik Sinner taking on Norway’s Casper Ruud, who is playing in his first final at the Foro Italico. It promises to be an entertaining day of tennis and, as always, we here at LWOT will be offering our preview and prediction for the final. But who will secure the title?

ATP Rome Final Prediction
Jannik Sinner vs Casper Ruud

Head-to-head: Sinner 4-0 Ruud

Jannik Sinner is showing no signs of slowing down the Italian unquestionably the dominant force in the men’s game, even accounting for the absence of Carlos Alcaraz. The world #1 is in the midst of a historic winning streak, recently breaking Novak Djokovic’s record at Master’s 1000 level and he has been in fantastic form once again this week, beating Sebastian Ofner, Alexei Popyrin, Andrea Pellegrino, and Andrey Rublev, all in straight sets, to reach the last four. He had to come through a tough battle against Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals, a match that was played over two days after a rain delay in the third set. But winning is a habit, and Sinner came though the match in three to reach his fifth successive final at Masters 1000 level.

In the final, he will be taking on a resurgent Casper Ruud. The Norwegian did did not have a great 2025 season – with the notable exception of his victory at the Madrid Open – but has started to find his way in 2026. He reached the fourth round at the Australian Open and has looked back to something approaching his best ahead of the final right before the French Open, where he has twice finished as runner-up. Indeed, he has only dropped one set so far this week at the ATP Rome Masters – to Karen Khachanov in the last eight – and was imperious in beating Sinner’s countryman Luciano Darderi in the semifinals for the loss of only three games.

This will be a real challenge for Ruud, however. There is a visible gap in the serving qualities of both players with Sinner is likely to hold serve far more easily than Ruud, who is also not as effective a returner as the Italian. In fact, it would be no surprise to see Ruud made to work to hold in almost every one of his service games. History is also not on Ruud’s side. This pair have met four times before with the most recent match coming last year at this very venue with Sinner winning comfortably.

Ruud is a good enough player to make this competitive with his forehand a particularly effective weapon on this surface. The rain delay on Friday may also have hampered the Italian’s recovery. Ultimately, howeve, Sinner’s quality sets him apart and the Italian’s relentless accuracy and depth should prove to be too hot to handle for the Norwegian.

Expect Sinner to be at his best once again and win the ATP Rome Masters for what would be a record breaking and unprecedented sixth Masters 1000 title on the bounce.

Prediction: Sinner in 3
