Thousands gathered at Circo Massimo for arcade gaming, live music and an exclusive preview screening ahead of the animated series’ Netflix debut

Netflix celebrated the upcoming release of new animated series Due Spicci with a large-scale fan event at Circo Massimo on May 24.

Titled INSERT DUE SPICCI, the immersive event invited fans into the world of acclaimed Roman cartoonist Zerocalcare ahead of the show’s exclusive launch on Netflix on May 27.

Created, written and directed by Zerocalcare, Due Spicci marks the latest animated project from one of Italy’s most distinctive contemporary comic creators, known for blending sharp social commentary with humour, personal storytelling and Roman culture.

The Rome event transformed Circo Massimo into a giant interactive gaming arena, with hundreds of arcade stations allowing attendees to compete in retro-inspired video games throughout the day. Fans played a mixture of classic 1980s and 1990s titles alongside a specially designed game created exclusively for the event, featuring characters and locations from Zerocalcare’s fictionalised version of Rome.

Participants worked together to collectively reach one billion points, unlocking the event’s ultimate reward — an exclusive preview screening of the first three episodes of the new Netflix series.

The celebration concluded with live performances from Italian artists Coez and Giancane, alongside a surprise appearance from rapper Rancore.

Coez performed his new single Ci vuole una laurea, while Giancane delivered Non ti riconosco più, the official theme song for Due Spicci. Hosting duties for the evening were handled by Cecilia Cantarano.

Alongside the gaming experiences, fans were also able to explore themed installations, immersive photo opportunities and interactive activities inspired by the series and Zerocalcare’s wider creative universe.
