Amid internal rifts and the temptation to join Vannacci, the Lazio Regional Council is experiencing another change. Councilor Enrico Tiero will leave the Brothers of Italy group for the Mixed Group. The decision has been made, and only the formal process remains to be completed. The move would not preclude a possible future return to the party, while the possibility of a move toward National Future, the rising political movement led by General Roberto Vannacci, remains in the background. Following the lifting of his house arrest, Tiero has returned to his seat in the Pisana district, on the benches of the center-right majority led by President Francesco Rocca. During his suspension, the seat in the Chamber had been held by the first of the unelected Fd’I members in the Latina constituency, Emanuela Zappone. The Rome Court of Review has upheld the appeal filed by the defense, ordering the revocation of the precautionary measure against the councilor, who has been suspended since October 18th. According to “Agenzia Nova” (News Agency) reports, Tiero’s departure from the Brothers of Italy party is believed to be due to a lack of agreement on the reinstatement of the positions he had vacated at the beginning of the legal proceedings. Tiero, in fact, had suspended himself from the Brothers of Italy party following the news of the prosecutor’s investigation against him, resigning for reasons of political expediency both from his role as deputy regional spokesperson for the party and from his position as chairman of the Economic Development Committee.
Upon returning to the Chamber, following the lifting of the precautionary measure, the councilor reportedly asked the party’s leadership to return to the positions he had previously vacated. According to those in the know, this request has not been granted. Specifically, the presidency of the Economic Development Committee has since been entrusted to Brothers of Italy councilor Vittorio Sambucci, making a return to the previous structure complex. This would have contributed to the decision to leave Brothers of Italy and join the Mixed Group, a move that only requires the administrative formalities at the Regional Council offices. At the same time, sources at Pisana do not rule out the possibility that, in light of the growth seen at the national level by Futuro Nazionale, Tiero may consider joining the movement founded by Vannacci. Among the speculations circulating, however, is that of a move to the League, although this is currently considered less likely. The movement led by the former general continues to consolidate its presence nationwide, attracting parliamentarians and political figures primarily from the League and Forza Italia.
In Lazio, no serving councilors have yet officially joined Futuro Nazionale. The exception is former MEP Antonio Maria Rinaldi, who represents a kind of short circuit within the center-right: identified by the League as a possible candidate for mayor of Rome in the 2027 elections, he subsequently left Matteo Salvini’s party to join Roberto Vannacci’s political project. This move speaks to the movements and tensions that the new political movement is fueling within the center-right. Meanwhile, the general’s call is beginning to be heard even in the corridors of the Capitoline Hill and the Pisana district, where Futuro Nazionale is arousing curiosity and interest among some center-right members disillusioned with the internal dynamics of their respective parties and seeking new avenues for representation.
