Dutch non-food discounter Action has announced that it has opened a new distribution centre in Ferentino, Italy.
The new facility is Action’s nineteenth distribution centre in Europe, highlighting the retailer’s continued investment in its supply chain.
Maurizio Oprandi, general manager of Action in Italy, said, “We are very happy to open our second Action owned distribution centre in Ferentino, almost five and a half years after introducing our first store in Italy.
“Customers have welcomed us warmly, and we are happy that we can bring the Action formula closer to them”
Focus On Sustainability
The new centre was built in line with Action’s focus on sustainability.
Operating without gas, the Ferentino site aims to receive BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) ‘Outstanding’ certification.
The facility uses solar panels for heating water and photovoltaic panels to generate electricity.
In addition, Action has implemented intelligent energy and water metres, LED lighting and electric vehicle charging stations at the new distribution centre.
Jens Burgers, director of supply chain at Action, said, “I am also very proud this distribution center continues to set an example in terms of sustainability.
“Every aspect of the facility, from construction materials to installed equipment, has been sustainable designed for ecological and environmentally friendly operations.”
Partnership With GXO
For the new distribution centre, Action partnered with logistics service provider GXO Logistics.
Alessandro Renzo, managing director of GXO Italy, commented, “It is a source of pride for GXO to support Action in this important phase of growth in Italy.”
Action aims to accelerate growth in the region with the new facility.
Burgers added, “DC Ferentino offers us a great central location for the distribution of Action’s growing store network in the center and the south of Italy.”
The retailer currently operates 235 stores in Italy, employing approximately 5000 people.
