Italian-style mansion on 79 acres listed for $2.5M in Montezuma
MONTEZUMA, Iowa —
A unique Italian-style mansion on nearly 80 acres has been listed for $2.5 million in Montezuma, Iowa, a small town about an hour east of Des Moines.
Real estate agent Rick Wanamaker described the property as an unusual find for the area.
“It’s certainly very unusual to have a house like this in a town this size,” Wanamaker said.
The estate, previously owned by the late Frank Brownell, a leader in the Brownell family firearms business near Grinnell, boasts over 8,000 square feet of living space. It includes five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a five-car garage and a private fishing lake. The property spans 45 acres, with additional land available for purchase.
The home also features an elevator that leads to a tower room offering a panoramic view of the estate.
“It’s very charming to have a lookout tower. And not many people have one. I don’t know of another house that I sold that has a lookout tower. So, it’s pretty spectacular,” said Marcia Wanamaker, who is co-listing the property with her husband.
The mansion is set back from the road, providing privacy with a gated entry.
“It’s not one you can drive by and see. It’s on 79 acres. It’s set back from the road. You can just barely see a roof. It’s got a gated entry. So it’s quite private. And it’s truly an estate-type home,” Rick Wanamaker said.
The Wanamakers noted that the $2.5 million price tag is a bargain compared with what the property might be worth in the Des Moines metro area.
“This is the kind of house that nobody’s necessarily looking for. But once they see it, they’re going to want it,” Rick Wanamaker said.
