I thought I played really well today. I\u2019m working really, really hard. I started really well, but I dropped the level,\u201d four-time Grand Slam champion Sabalenka said in Rome.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI felt like my body was limiting me from performing at the highest level. She stepped in and played incredible tennis. She didn\u2019t really give me many opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was \u2060a tough one. But I guess we \u2060never lose; we only learn, so it\u2019s OK.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sabalenka\u2019s disappointing clay court swing follows a stellar run on hardcourts, during which she captured the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/sports\/2026\/1\/11\/aryna-sabalenka-wins-brisbane-title-ahead-of-australian-open\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brisbane title<\/a>, reached the \u2060<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/sports\/2026\/1\/31\/rybakina-shocks-sabalenka-to-win-australian-open-tennis-final\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Australian Open final<\/a> and claimed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/sports\/2026\/3\/29\/sabalenka-defeats-gauff-to-win-second-straight-miami-open-title\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">back-to-back trophies<\/a> in Indian Wells and Miami.<\/p>\n<p>The Belarusian said she \u2060now hoped to regain her fitness \u2060in time for the French Open, which gets under way in Paris on May 24, after losing last year\u2019s final against Coco Gauff.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d say that probably it\u2019s \u200clike my lower back, connected to the hip, which limited my full rotation,\u201d the 28-year-old added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI guess we\u2019re just going to \u200chave \u200csome days off. We\u2019re going to spend it on recovery.
