During the two-day trip, the Princess will focus<\/a> on early childhood development and support the global expansion of her Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the visit also carries a personal connection, as she once studied in Italy, before meeting Prince William.<\/p>\n

Italy Trip Marks a \u201cSignificant Moment\u201d for Kate Middleton<\/p>\n

According to sources, the Princess of Wales\u2019 <\/a>two-day visit to Reggio Emilia, Italy, will mark her first overseas work visit since revealing her cancer diagnosis in March 2024 and undergoing treatment throughout the year.<\/p>\n

Therefore, her return to the international stage is set to be a \u201creally significant moment for her.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking with People<\/a>, the royal aide said, \u201c[This visit] is an important step in the princess\u2019s recovery journey. She takes great joy from this work. I think it is only right that her first international trip since her illness is one that is focused on an issue that is committed to championing for decades to come,\u201d<\/p>\n

Further, sources said the Princess has become<\/a> more focused since her cancer recovery and is eager for the visit.<\/p>\n

People have noticed that she has taken on a different pace and gear compared to pre-2024. \u201cShe’s looking forward to being here, she’s energized, she’s enthused, she’s excited to see Reggio Emilia in action and meet the people here too,\u201d insiders shared.<\/p>\n

Princess of Wales Shares a History With Florence<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, humanitarian work isn’t the only thing that Kate Middleton seems excited about. Sources close to the Princess of Wales have also informed People<\/a> that the 44-year-old shares a personal history with Florence, Italy.<\/p>\n

It’s the place where she spent part of her gap year studying, while also dealing with heartbreak<\/a> from her first love.<\/p>\n

After graduating from Marlborough College in 2000, the then-18-year-old traveled to Florence and joined a three-month course at the British Institute, where she studied Italian and the history of art.<\/p>\n

According to Italy Magazine<\/a>, Middleton spent time at popular local spots including Antico Caff\u00e8 del Moro and Caff\u00e8 degli Artisti.<\/p>\n

In addition, while the then-future Princess stayed in Florence by sharing an apartment with four other girls, there were rumors that Prince William was also heading to Florence for an art course.<\/p>\n

However, their paths didn’t collide, and Kate Middleton remained focused<\/a> on her former boyfriend Harry Blakelock at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Kate arrived in Florence, she was really hung up about Harry. She spoke about him all the time, and he seemed to have messed her around quite a bit,” a friend told Daily Mail<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“He seemed to have blown hot and cold with her when they were at school, and she was always talking about how she could get him back.\u201d<\/p>\n

They added, \u201cHe was also in Florence at the same time, but from what I can remember, nothing happened.\u201d<\/p>\n

Eventually, moving on from her first love, as Middleton went to study at the University of St. Andrews in 2001, she met Prince William. Later on, after dating for eight years, the couple announced their engagement in November 2010.<\/p>\n

Kate Middleton and Prince William<\/a> tied the knot in April 2011, and have become blessed parents of three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.<\/p>\n
