Rome’s annual Honor America Days event is slated for late July and will focus on celebrating America 250, according to organizers.<\/p>\n

“This year’s theme, ‘Celebrating 250 Years of America,’ honoring our community\u2019s resilience,heritage, and shared pride in the American spirit \u2014 made extra special as our nation marks 250years of independence,” expressed the Rome Area Chamber of Commerce in a statement. “This year\u2019s main sponsor, Revere Copper Products, Inc., continues its longstanding tradition of community leadership and commitment to the City of Rome as they celebrate their 225th anniversary.”<\/p>\n

Revere Copper, a historic Rome manufacturer, joins the nation in celebrating a milestone anniversary of over 200 years in 2026, as the main sponsor of the America250 Honor America Days\u00a0celebration and the proud inspiration of Rome\u2019s national\u00a0nickname\u00a0as \u201cthe Copper City\u201d\u00a0marks its own 225th\u00a0anniversary.<\/p>\n

Rome’s Honor America Days are slated for the weekend of July 24.<\/p>\n

Honor America Days history<\/p>\n

While 2026 marks the 43rd\u00a0\u201cHonor America Days\u201d celebration in Rome, this celebration rebranded to engage more of the community began as \u201cFort Stanwix Days,\u201d in the 1970s,<\/a> borne of a renewed pride in being home to the historic revolutionary-era \u201cfort that never surrendered.\u201d<\/p>\n

In August, the Fort Stanwix National Monument will commemorate the bloody Battle of Oriskany.<\/p>\n

It was then Rome Mayor\u00a0Carl Eilenberg, who aspired to elaborate on\u00a0Fort Stanwix Days, imagining a larger, longer event blending patriotism and nostalgia into\u00a0a beloved community tradition.<\/p>\n

The rebranding took\u00a0hold\u00a0in the 1980s as “Honor America Days\u201d\u00a0and this year \u2013 its 43rd\u00a0celebration \u2013 honors the 250th\u00a0anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.<\/p>\n

The City of Rome’s Honor America Days Parade kicked off at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2025. The parade started on the corner of West Chestnut Street and North James Street, and ended outside Rome City Hall. This year’s theme was \u201cThere\u2019s No Place Like Rome \u2014 in the 80s.\u201d<\/p>\n

The event, as\u00a0evidenced\u00a0by attendance last year of over 3,000 people, is a cherished\u00a0tradition\u00a0of gathering Romans and residents of neighboring Mohawk Valley towns in a resounding celebration of the region\u2019s pride in its part in American history.<\/p>\n

The annual Honor America Days 5K is the primary fundraiser for the non-profit Copper City-based running organization, the Rome Roadrunners\u00a0is on its mark at 8 a.m. on July 25, beginning with the Kids Run, followed by the main 5K event at 8:30 a.m., concluding at 9:55 a.m., just before the Honor America Days parade.<\/p>\n

The race\u00a0has been a\u00a0Rome tradition\u00a0as long as\u00a0Honor America Days itself, with the first event held in 1971, when it was originally dubbed the Fort Stanwix Days 20K, with the route stretching from Fort Stanwix down Route 69 to the Oriskany Monument, looping around it, and back.\u00a0There were no\u00a0water stops along the almost 12.5-mile course run in the month of July.<\/p>\n

\u201cLocal residents were encouraged to set up\u00a0water hoses for the runners,\u201d\u00a0shared\u00a0current Rome Roadrunners President Matt Moore.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat race was won by Moses Mayfield from Philadelphia\u00a0in\u00a0a time of 65:52,\u201d said Moore. \u201cThe third-place winner was Ralph Thomas of Gardner, Maine who hitchhiked to get there and began hitchhiking back right when it was over.\u201d<\/p>\n

Registration for Kids Run\u00a0event is free but is still required by July 25, by 8 a.m. Register on the Roadrunners website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0early\u00a0registration fee to run in the 5K Parade Run is $30.15 (including a $3.15 online processing fee. There will be a fee increase for registration after June 29, 2026, 11:59 p.m.\u00a0Register online on the Rome Roadrunners website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just\u00a0small town\u00a0goodness,\u201d said past parade-goer Jack\u00a0Bethke<\/a>\u00a0of the beloved community march featuring\u00a0featuring\u00a0flags, floats, first responders, marching bands, veterans and \u201chundreds of bags of candy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ve got all the kids out here with the bands, the old folks, the veterans showing out \u2014 it\u2019s Norman Rockwell small-town goodness,” he said.<\/p>\n

The annual Honor America Days Parade will feature local marching bands, veterans\u2019 groups, civic organizations, and colorful floats saluting both Rome\u2019s past and its bright future.<\/p>\n

It starts to march at Chestnut Street\u00a0at North James Street\u00a0at 10 a.m. on July 25,\u00a0proceeding\u00a0down N. James Street, turning at West Embargo Street to pass the reviewing Stand before concluding\u00a0on corner of N. George Street and W. Dominick Street, a block from Fort Stanwix National Monument.<\/p>\n

Registration for the parade is now open; applications can be found on Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce website<\/a>. The deadline for applications is July 15.<\/p>\n

The Syracuse Orchestra performs its annual free concert during a recent Rome’s Honor America Days celebration, typically held near the end of July at Fort Stanwix National Monument.<\/p>\n

Ending in song<\/p>\n

After performing\u00a0eight\u00a0\u201cevenings of live symphonic music under the summer sky\u201d across Central New York, including the Mohawk Valley communities of\u00a0Herkimer, Hamilton, and\u00a0Cazenovia, the\u00a0Syracuse Orchestra will perform the finale concert of their 2026 \u201cSummer Songs\u201d tour at Fort Stanwix National Monument as part of the almost half-a-century tradition that\u00a0is the Rome America Days celebration.<\/p>\n

The program will feature\u00a0\u201can entertaining blend of light classical favorites, patriotic selections, Broadway hits, and beloved popular standards,\u201d said a Syracuse Symphony statement.\u00a0To learn more about Summer Concert Series locations, area restaurants, and fun sites to explore before and after the Orchestra\u2019s performances, music lovers are invited to visit SyracuseOrchestra.org\/tourism<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The City of Utica held its Independence Day after-party from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at Proctor Park at the corner of Culver Avenue and Rutger Street with food, vendors, bounce houses, music by local band Last Left and fireworks at dusk. Admission was free, and the Party in the Park was open to the public.<\/p>\n

Annual fireworks show<\/p>\n

The annual Honor America Days Fireworks show will begin shortly after the conclusion of the Syracuse Orchestra, approximately 10 p.m.<\/p>\n

Food trucks and other vendors will be staged during the concert-fireworks events\u00a0across from Fort Stanwix in the Liberty Street city parking lot.<\/p>\n

Event organizers are still seeking Food Trucks to serve the concert and fireworks events on the evening of July 25. Applications are available at the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce website<\/a>.<\/p>\n
