(Atlanta News First) \u2014 Tyson Foods will soon shut down a plant in Rome, Georgia, resulting in 168 layoffs. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The facility at 10 Darlington Dr. SW \u2014 which operated under The Hillshire Brands Company, a Tyson subsidiary \u2014 will close on May 31. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The company announced the news to the city\u2019s mayor and the Georgia Department of Labor in a letter on March 26, attributing the closure to contract losses. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cTyson Foods regrets that its team members must be displaced yet hopes to accomplish this plant closure with the least possible disruption to team members, their families, and the community,\u201d the letter said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">According to the letter, employees were notified the same day. Under the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, employers must tell employees about plant closures or mass layoffs at least 60 days in advance. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Tyson Foods is the country\u2019s largest chicken processor, and Georgia is the nation\u2019s leading state for poultry production. But recently, the company has scaled back its operations, including closing a Nebraska beef processing plant in January. <\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2026 WANF.
