{"id":29367,"date":"2026-07-03T11:21:09","date_gmt":"2026-07-03T11:21:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/italy\/29367\/"},"modified":"2026-07-03T11:21:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-03T11:21:09","slug":"venice-classics-2026-cassavetes-bunuel-rossellini-roger-corman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/italy\/29367\/","title":{"rendered":"Venice Classics 2026: Cassavetes, Bu\u00f1uel, Rossellini, Roger Corman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/?post_type=pmc_list&amp;p=1236620225&amp;preview=true\" data-invalid=\"true\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2026 Venice International Film Festival<\/a> will showcase newly restored works by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/john-cassavetes\/\" id=\"auto-tag_john-cassavetes_1\" data-tag=\"john-cassavetes\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">John Cassavetes<\/a>, Luis Bu\u00f1uel, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/roberto-rossellini\/\" id=\"auto-tag_roberto-rossellini_1\" data-tag=\"roberto-rossellini\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Roberto Rossellini<\/a>, Andrzej Wajda and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/roger-corman\/\" id=\"auto-tag_roger-corman_1\" data-tag=\"roger-corman\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Roger Corman<\/a> in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/venice-classics\/\" id=\"auto-tag_venice-classics_1\" data-tag=\"venice-classics\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Venice Classics<\/a> section.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 19 restored features in this year\u2019s Venice Classics line-up, curated by artistic director Alberto Barbera with Federico Gironi, were unveiled on Friday. The section presents world premiere screenings of restorations completed over the past year by film archives, cultural institutions and production companies from around the world.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2026 Highlights include John Cassavetes\u2019 Minnie and Moskowitz (1971), Roger Corman\u2019s The Wild Angels (1966), Luis Bu\u00f1uel\u2019s La Ilusi\u00f3n Viaja en Tranv\u00eda (Illusion Travels by Streetcar) (1954), Roberto Rossellini\u2019s Viaggio in Italia (Journey to Italy) (1954), Andrzej Wajda\u2019s Popi\u00f3\u0142 i Diament (Ashes and Diamonds) (1958), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/roman-polanski\/\" id=\"auto-tag_roman-polanski_1\" data-tag=\"roman-polanski\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Roman Polanski<\/a>\u2018s Cul-de-sac (1966) and Ernst Lubitsch\u2019s To Be or Not to Be (1942).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The selection will open with a pre-festival screening of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/soft-core-classic-deadly-sweet-pre-open-venice-film-fest-1236632848\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tinto Brass\u2019 soft-core thriller Col Cuore in Gola (Deadly Sweet) <\/a>(1967).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Italian cinema is further represented by Ettore Scola\u2019s Brutti, Sporchi e Cattivi (Ugly, Dirty and Bad) (1976), Daniele Cipr\u00ec and Franco Maresco\u2019s Lo Zio di Brooklyn (The Uncle From Brooklyn) (1995) and Florestano Vancini\u2019s La Lunga Notte del \u201943 (Long Night in \u201943) (1960).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The lineup also includes Dev Benegal\u2019s English, August (1993), Ann Hui\u2019s Woo Yuet Dik Goo Si (The Story of Woo Viet) (1981), Ning Ying\u2019s Minjing Gushi (On the Beat) (1995), Jaromil Jire\u0161\u2019 Valerie a T\u00fdden Div\u016f (Valerie and Her Week of Wonders) (1970), Alexander Kluge\u2019s Abschied von Gestern (Yesterday Girl) (1966), Shinji S\u014dmai\u2019s Gyoei No Mure (The Catch) (1983), Sim\u00f3n Feldman\u2019s Los de la Mesa 10 (Those at Table 10) (1960) and Flora Gomes\u2019 Udju Azul di Yonta (The Blue Eyes of Yonta) (1992).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Director Daniele Vicari will chair the Venice Classics jury, comprising 24 film students nominated by professors from Italian universities, DAMS programs and Ca\u2019 Foscari University of Venice. The jury will award the Venice Classics prize for Best Restored Film.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 84th <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/venice-film-festival\/\" id=\"auto-tag_venice-film-festival_1\" data-tag=\"venice-film-festival\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Venice Film Festival<\/a> will run Sept. 2-12.
