(AFP)<\/p>\n<p>Lebanese state media reported Israeli airstrikes and shelling overnight into Aug. 6 morning, after <a title=\"Israel\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hurriyetdailynews.com\/index\/israel\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Israel<\/a> announced its first military fatalities in more than a month as renewed hostilities flared.<\/p>\n<p>The strikes \u2014 which began on Aug. 5 afternoon and were accompanied by the first evacuation warning in weeks \u2014 came as Israel and <a title=\"Lebanon\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hurriyetdailynews.com\/index\/lebanon\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lebanon<\/a> took part in U.S.-mediated talks in Rome, with Beirut seeking Israel\u2019s phased withdrawal from the south.<\/p>\n<p>Lebanon\u2019s official National News Agency (NNA) reported that \u201cthe Israeli enemy escalated its attacks\u201d on Tyre district with \u201ca series of airstrikes and artillery shelling\u201d that lasted from Aug. 5 night into Aug. 6 morning.<\/p>\n<p>The agency reported four strikes in the town of Burj al-Shamali, leaving four people wounded.<\/p>\n<p>It also said Israeli aircraft carried out three strikes in and around Mansouri, as \u201cartillery shelling and tank fire\u201d targeted the town simultaneously.<\/p>\n<p>Mansouri\u2019s residents had been warned by the Israeli military on Aug. 5 to evacuate.<\/p>\n<p>The Lebanese Health Ministry reported at least one person killed in Wednesday\u2019s strikes.<\/p>\n<p>Israel accused Hezbollah on Aug. 5 of forcing it to act by violating a ceasefire that had sharply reduced the level of hostilities since June.<\/p>\n<p>Its military later announced that two reservists were killed on Wednesday \u2014 the first soldiers to die in Lebanon since June 28.<\/p>\n<p>At the U.S.-backed talks in Rome aimed at ending the fighting, Israel requested that the day\u2019s proceedings end early on Aug. 5, a source told AFP, though they were expected to resume Aug. 6.<\/p>\n<p>In previous talks in June, Israel and Lebanon agreed to a framework deal that involves the disarmament of Hezbollah, a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanon\u2019s south and the deployment of the Lebanese army to the region, starting in \u201cpilot zones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Iran-backed Hezbollah has repeatedly rejected the talks and refuses to surrender its weapons, and its leader Naim Qassem said on Aug. 4 that the direct negotiations would bring \u201cnothing but shame, humiliation\u201d and concessions for Lebanon.<\/p>\n<p>Hezbollah drew Lebanon into the wider Middle East <a title=\"war\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hurriyetdailynews.com\/index\/war\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">war<\/a> on March 2, firing rockets at Israel in support of its patron Iran.<\/p>\n<p>The violence had waned since the Lebanon-Israel deal and the signing of a preliminary U.S.-Iran agreement on the Middle East conflict, though intermittent Israeli strikes and shelling continued.<\/p>\n<p>Since the fighting in Lebanon first erupted, Israel\u2019s military has lost 38 soldiers and one civilian contractor.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"ROME Journalists wait for the arrival of delegations for a new round of talks between the Lebanese and&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":38415,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[37,3796,27,342],"class_list":["post-38414","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-rome","tag-israel","tag-lebanon","tag-rome","tag-war"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/italy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/38414","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/italy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/italy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/italy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/italy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=38414"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/italy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/38414\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/italy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/38415"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/italy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=38414"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/italy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=38414"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/italy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=38414"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
