While the state and nation overall saw thousands of jobs disappear in July, hiring in the South Bay and East Bay powered a gain of 2,300 jobs in the Bay Area last month, a new government labor report shows.<\/p>\n

The gains in July represented a rebound for the Bay Area,<\/a> which suffered a loss of 5,600 jobs in June, according to new figures from the state Employment Development Department.<\/p>\n

The latest report from the state EDD also showed that the South Bay reached a record high of 1,175,200 jobs in July.\n<\/p>\n

The South Bay led the hiring spree over the most recent one-year period as measured by percentage changes in job totals and outpaced the Bay Area, California and the United States during that stretch of time.\n<\/p>\n

Over the 12 months ending in July, job totals rose by 1.7% in the South Bay, 0.7% in both the Bay Area and the San Francisco-San Mateo region, 0.02% in the East Bay, 0.6% in California, and 0.2% nationwide, according to figures posted at the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics site.\n<\/p>\n

California lost 20,500 jobs in July, the state EDD reported. The state has now lost jobs two of the last three months.<\/p>\n

Statewide unemployment, however, improved to 5.1% in July compared with 5.2% in June, according to the state labor report.<\/p>\n

In the region, the South Bay gained 3,300 jobs in July, and the East Bay added 1,100, according to the report. The San Francisco-San Mateo region lost 1,400 jobs last month.<\/p>\n

In the North Bay, Solano County gained 200 jobs and Marin County added 100, but Sonoma County lost 900 jobs and Napa County shed 100. All of the metro and statewide numbers were adjusted for seasonal volatility.<\/p>\n
