<\/a>MONTEZUMA, Iowa \u2014<\/p>\nA unique Italian-style mansion on nearly 80 acres has been listed for $2.5 million in Montezuma, Iowa, a small town about an hour east of Des Moines. <\/p>\n
Real estate agent Rick Wanamaker described the property as an unusual find for the area. <\/p>\n
“It’s certainly very unusual to have a house like this in a town this size,” Wanamaker said. <\/p>\n
The estate, previously owned by the late Frank Brownell, a leader in the Brownell family firearms business near Grinnell, boasts over 8,000 square feet of living space. It includes five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a five-car garage and a private fishing lake. The property spans 45 acres, with additional land available for purchase. <\/p>\n
The home also features an elevator that leads to a tower room offering a panoramic view of the estate. <\/p>\n
“It’s very charming to have a lookout tower. And not many people have one. I don’t know of another house that I sold that has a lookout tower. So, it’s pretty spectacular,” said Marcia Wanamaker, who is co-listing the property with her husband. <\/p>\n
The mansion is set back from the road, providing privacy with a gated entry. <\/p>\n
“It’s not one you can drive by and see. It’s on 79 acres. It’s set back from the road. You can just barely see a roof. It’s got a gated entry. So it’s quite private. And it’s truly an estate-type home,” Rick Wanamaker said. <\/p>\n
The Wanamakers noted that the $2.5 million price tag is a bargain compared with what the property might be worth in the Des Moines metro area. <\/p>\n
“This is the kind of house that nobody’s necessarily looking for.
